Birdwatching & Nature Tour in Türkiye

tur-6-gorsel

Türkiye is one of the most rewarding destinations for birdwatching and nature travel. Located between Europe, Asia and Africa, the country offers an exceptional variety of habitats, from wetlands and deltas to mountains, steppe landscapes, forests, lakes and coastal areas.

This sample programme is designed for birdwatching groups, nature organisations, wildlife photographers and specialist tour operators looking for a well-organised birding journey through Türkiye.

The route can include important birding areas such as the Kızılırmak Delta, Sultan Marshes, Cappadocia region, Göksu Delta, Taurus Mountains and selected Mediterranean habitats. The Kızılırmak Delta is one of Türkiye’s most important wetlands and is listed on the UNESCO Tentative List; UNESCO notes that hundreds of bird species have been observed there. Sultan Marshes is also a Ramsar site and an important breeding and wintering area for various waterbird species. The Göksu Delta is officially protected as a Special Environmental Protection Area and is also known as a significant wetland and birdwatching area.

All programmes can be fully tailor-made according to the interests, season, target species, preferred travel pace and budget of the client.

Day 1

Arrival in Samsun

Upon arrival in Samsun, guests are welcomed by our local team and transferred to the hotel.

Depending on the flight schedule, there may be time for a short orientation and a first introduction to the Black Sea region.

Overnight in Samsun / Kızılırmak Delta area.

Day 2

Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary

Today is dedicated to the Kızılırmak Delta, one of the most important birding areas in Türkiye.

The delta offers a rich combination of wetlands, lagoons, reed beds, coastal habitats and open landscapes. Depending on the season, the area can be rewarding for waterbirds, raptors, passerines, herons, ducks and migratory species.

The programme can include early morning observation, short walks, photography stops and time at suitable birdwatching points.

Overnight in Samsun / Kızılırmak Delta area.

Day 3

Full Day Birdwatching in Kızılırmak Delta

A second full day allows the group to explore different habitats within the delta.

For birdwatchers, this slower rhythm is important. The programme should not be rushed. We can plan the day around the best observation times, with early morning and late afternoon sessions.

Depending on the group’s interests, we can focus on wetlands, reed beds, migration activity, photography opportunities or a more general natural history programme.

Overnight in Samsun / Kızılırmak Delta area.

Day 4

From the Black Sea Region to Central Anatolia

After breakfast, we leave the Black Sea region and travel inland towards Central Anatolia.

The route offers changing landscapes, from greener northern regions to the more open Anatolian plateau. Along the way, suitable nature stops can be included depending on the season and bird activity.

Arrival in the Cappadocia / Kayseri region.

Overnight in Cappadocia / Kayseri region.

Day 5

Sultan Marshes and Central Anatolian Wetlands

Today we visit Sultan Marshes, an important wetland system near Kayseri.

The area is known for its combination of freshwater and saltwater habitats, reed beds, open water and surrounding steppe landscapes. It can be interesting for waterbirds, marshland species, raptors and steppe-related birdlife.

The visit can be arranged with a birdwatching focus, including observation points, nature walks and photography opportunities.

Overnight in Cappadocia / Kayseri region.

Day 6

Cappadocia Landscapes and Nature

Today we enjoy the unique natural landscapes of Cappadocia.

Although Cappadocia is famous for its rock formations and cultural heritage, the region also offers interesting valleys, open habitats and scenic walking areas. The programme can include light hiking, panoramic viewpoints and selected nature stops.

For specialist groups, this day can be adjusted to focus more on birds, geology, flora, photography or local rural landscapes.

Overnight in Cappadocia.

Day 7

Taurus Mountains and Mediterranean Transition Zone

After breakfast, we travel south towards the Mediterranean region.

The route crosses different ecological zones, making this a rewarding transition day. Depending on the season, we can include selected stops in mountain areas, valleys or open landscapes.

The Taurus Mountains offer a different natural setting compared with the wetlands and plateaus visited earlier in the tour.

Overnight in Silifke / Mersin region.

Day 8

Göksu Delta Birdwatching

Today is dedicated to the Göksu Delta, one of the key wetland areas on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast.

The delta includes lagoons, marshes, river habitats, dunes, agricultural land and coastal environments. It is especially interesting during migration periods and can offer good opportunities for observing waterbirds, herons, raptors and other migratory species.

The programme can include early morning birdwatching, short walks, observation stops and photography time.

Overnight in Silifke / Mersin region.

Day 9

Mediterranean Nature and Coastal Habitats

Today we continue exploring the Mediterranean region.

Depending on the season and interests of the group, we can include additional birding areas, coastal habitats, river mouths, wetlands or mountain foothills. The programme can also be combined with a short cultural visit, for example to a nearby ancient site, if the group wants a lighter final day.

For pure birding groups, the day can remain fully focused on nature observation.

Overnight in Antalya / Mersin / Adana region, depending on the routing.

Day 10

Departure or Extension

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight.

Depending on the final route, departure can be arranged from Antalya, Adana, Kayseri or Istanbul.

The programme can also be extended with additional birding days, Eastern Türkiye, Lake Van region, the Black Sea mountains, or more Mediterranean wetlands.

End of the programme.
